Suspect in Alcoa Shooting Charged

Maryville, Blount County (WVLT) - We now know the identity of the Lenoir City man, in custody in connection with a shooting early Sunday morning in Maryville.

Thirty-six-year-old James Velez is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder.

Police say Velez shot 22-year-old Christopher Ross in the face in an apartment parking lot on Sunday.

Metropolitan Airport Authority Officer Corey Shane Ogle spotted a vehicle matching the Velez's description and pulled it over.

The two exchanged fire, Velez was shot and is at UT Medical Center in stable condition.

There's no word yet on a possible motive for the shooting.

Ross also continues to recover at UT Medical Center.
