Knoxville (WVLT) - Knoxville City Council members voted Tuesday night to use money from the Candy Factory sale for improvements to the Sunsphere and Amphitheatre.
Plans for the Sunsphere include reopening the 4th floor observation deck, operating a snack bar, and locating businesses there, including the alternative newspaper Metro Pulse.
Developer Kinsey Probasco of Chattanooga will pay roughly $57,000 a year in Sunsphere rent, over at least a 30 year period.
For the Amphitheatre, improvements include restoring the roof.
Work could begin in the spring and be completed this fall in time for the 25th anniversary of Knoxville's World's Fair.
