Alternatives to the Big Game

Knoxville (WVLT) - If you aren't one of the millions of people planning on watching the Colts take on the Bears Sunday, just what are you going to do?

To give you an idea of how popular the Super Bowl is, over 90 million people tuned in last year, while munching on 14,500 tons of chips and 8 million pounds of guacamole.

If none of that, or the 20 percent increase in antacids sounds very appetizing to you, maybe some of these ideas will help.

Since Super Bowl XLI kicks off right about the time all the malls close their doors, you can forget about shopping your way through the touchdowns and tackles.

But you can get some peace and quite at the movie theater.

If you're into a good chick flick "Because I Said So" and "Catch And Release" are out this weekend, in the scary movie category there is "The Messengers" and "Blood And Chocolate", for a comedy you can catch "Epic Movie", and a drama coming out is "Constellation".

If dinner before hand sounds good, you certainly won't have to wait at places like Copper Cellar on Kingston Pike.

Really if you head to any place without the big screens, you should be able to get in and out.

"If you are looking for an alternative to the traditional Super Bowl crowd then you have a great place to come," says Mark Mangum, Copper Cellar Manger.

Also, there are all the typical things you may do on Sunday, for example your Sunday night at church. The ones we talked with are having regular schedules and some are even having Super Bowl get-togethers after services.

If that night in sounds like the better idea, places like Blockbuster say there is no need to rent early, Super Bowl Sunday is typically really slow.

Now, if you despise the words 'Super Bowl' but still want to somehow celebrate the day, you can be creative and have what's called an "anti-super bowl party". There are many specific themes out there.
