Knoxville (WVLT) - The case against a woman, charged with animal cruelty is now in the hands of the grand jury.
Authorities say Dustin Daniels is accused of dragging her pit bull behind her car for about a mile last September.
The dog died from injuries sustained.
Tuesday, Daniels waived her right to a hearing, allowing the case to be sent to the grand jury.
Animal advocate, Sandi Harper says animal cruelty laws need to be strengthened against the people who commit those types of crimes. "I don't know this lady. I don't know if she's guilty, that's for the courts to decide, but if she is, I didn't want a plea bargain to be made. I feel like the laws and the punishment, they're flimsy enough."
Authorities say witnesses begged Daniels to stop her car, as she dragged the dog down the street.
