Loudon County (WVLT) - New developments in the strike at the Maremont plant in Loudon County.
The company has issued a letter inviting workers to come back to work, or else they'll be replaced. More than 250 of the auto plant workers are on strike. Members of the International Machinists Local 2545 union have not reached an agreement with the plant owner.
Central to the agreement is the company's plan to cut 401Ks and increase health insurance premiums.
"It makes you mad, you know, people's worked here 30 and 35 years are having their life taken away from them, you know. They're just bringing people in and having them work for nothing, you know. All we're fighting for is our insurance and our rights," striking worker Jimmy Silvey said.
Maremont officials couldn't speak to us on camera, but we did obtain a copy of that letter.
It says - quote - "If you do not report for work at the start of your regularly assigned shift by Thursday, February eighth, 2007, the company will begin to hire and employ permanent replacements for those employees who do not report for work."
