Former Track Coach Arrested On Second Sexual Battery Charge

Dyersburg, Tenn. (AP) -- A former Dyersburg youth minister and volunteer track coach was arrested on a second sexual battery charge stemming from a trip to Knoxville for a cross country match.

Timothy Byars was arrested at his Dyersburg home on a warrant by Nashville Police.

Nashville Police said this charge involves the older sister of a 14-year-old girl Byars is charged with raping during the same trip.

Byars was indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury last month on four counts of rape, sexual battery by an authority figure and aggravated statutory rape over an incident November 18th in Knoxville.

The older girl alleged Byars assaulted her during a stop for gasoline in Nashville on a trip to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union Southeast Cross Country Championships.

Byars is being held in Nashville on a $25,000 bond.
