Oneida, Scott County (WVLT) - In Scott County, a woman faces several rape charges.
Twenty-year-old, Regina Branim, faces 6 counts of child rape and a statutory rape charge.
Scott County Sherrif, Anthony Lay, says he hopes to send a strong message to his community...sexual misconduct with minors will not be tolerated.
"We see cases due to older men and younger girls, this is probably one of the first cases that I'm aware of, especially in a great number of years where we see an opposite, where we see a female is actually the older than a male," Scott County Sheriff Anthony Lay says.
Regina Branim is accused of a two year sexual relationship with a younger boy, who is now 14. The Sheriff says the relationship has been going on for two years... beginning when Branim was 18 and the boy was 12. His family tipped detectives off about the case.
"We had some family members express concern on this misconduct issue complaning of sexual offense going on and the investigation was done by Detective Donnie Anderson of the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the arrest was made on the thirteenth," Sheriff Lay says.
In court today, Branim waived her right to a speedy trial. Judge Jamie Cotton set her bond at $50,000. Around 5:30 Wednesday evening, she was escorted back to the Scott County Jail.
Sheriff Lay says he hopes this arrest will serve as an example of a zero-tolerance.
"It's a large concern and it's something we have to definately set our foot down on and we have to work hard each day to keep this from happening," Sheriff Lay says. "Our children are our most important assest and we have to protect them to the best of our ability."
