Fort Campbell, KY (AP) -- Nearly 200 Fort Campbell soldiers were honored Thursday for service in Iraq.
Specialists Jose Alvarez and Greg Pushkin, and Sergeant Jeremy Wilzcek, of Task Force Red Currahee, received the Silver Star. It's one of the Army's highest honors, given for gallantry in action.
Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ron Clark says the three soldiers risked their lives numerous times to come to the aid of their comrades.
Fifteen soldiers received Bronze Stars, 97 received Army Commendation Medals and 86 were awarded Purple Hearts for their service during the group's year-long deployment from November 2005 to November 2006.
