Knoxville (WVLT) It's been one of the most clever TV ad campaigns in history.
Now the search is on, right in your own backyard for the next generation of the Maytag Repairman.
WVLT Volunteer TV Anchor Alan Williams has more on the the competition among hopefuls in this national competition.
Absolutely, anything goes as the auditions.
Within the whelm of decency of course.
No judges are involved, just a video camera.
It began around 4 Monday afternoon.
People from every walk of life gathered in hopes of taking over the spot of one of the longest running characters in TV commercial history.
Curtis Pettyjohn, who auditioned, had this to say about the audition process.
"I'd love to be the next Maytag Repairman. I just moved here recently from Chicago and did a lot of commercials there.
Phil Hurst, another person who auditioned says, "I don't think Maytag Repairman really need a particular skill, after all we do is sit around and look tired. I know I'll have lots of spare time so I have a special partner I'll spend a lot of time with and will do a lot of dancing."
The ventriloquist Ron Lighty from Oak Ridge was also on hand.
All of the auditions will have their tapes sent to the main office, then the winner will be announced at the end of March.
