Knoxville (WVLT) -- Two motorists were killed in a wreck at around 1 Saturday morning on Interstate 40 in Loudon County. The accident occurred on west bound I-40 near its split with I-75 and the Watts Road exit.
When crews arrived they found a small car fully engulfed in flames.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says it may need two weeks to settle exactly what caused wreck.
Troopers say Thomas Lowery, of Pensacola, Florida, and his passenger, Lonnie Dunn of Tuscaloosa, Alabama were trying to change lanes to get out from behind a tractor trailer when the accident occurred.
When Lowery's truck shifted lanes, it made contact with the rear of a Saturn sedan causing the sedan to spin and then come to a rest in the left lane where it caught on fire.
Inside the Saturn, 44 year-old William Brown of Magnolia, Texas and 39 year old Barbara Taylor of Tomball, Texas were both killed
Lowery was taken to Baptist Hospital West and his condition is not being released though his injuries were reported to be non life-threatening.
There is no word on Dunn's condition.
