Blount Schools Asks for Additional $5M

Maryville, Blount County (WVLT) - The Blount County School Board is asking for an additional five million dollars in funding from the county commission.

In a rare meeting Tuesday night, school board members told commissioners their needs in opening new schools and the need for school resource officers.

But some commissioners, like Doctor Robert Ramsey, say these are lean times and funding could be an issue.

"I would see it a difficult task to generate some extra revenue by increasing the property taxes," says Commission Chairman Dr. Robert Ramsey.

The Blount County Budget Committee will take a first look at the school's request when they meet March 12th.

Tonight at 5:30, we're headed back to Blount County where the wheel tax debate is back, even after you voted against it. Stephen McLamb takes a closer look at how much you might end up paying and why it might not be up to you this time.
