Governor Arrives in Ariz. To Visit Tennessee Guardsmen

Tucson, Ariz. (AP) -- Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen has arrived at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, to begin a two-day tour of Tennessee National Guard operations along the Arizona-Mexico border.

Bredesen says the visit will give him a better sense of what Guardsmen are doing in helping the Border Patrol guard the border than he can get back in Nashville. He says he also wants to pay respects to guard members who have also served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The governor made the flight today in a KC-125 tanker assigned to the 134th Air Refueling Wing, based in Knoxville.

Bredesen, who is a pilot, took advantage of an extra seat in the cockpit to observe the takeoff from Nashville and the landing in Tucson.
