Democrats Eye Cuts To 2008 Iraq War Request

Capitol Hill (AP) -- Democrats may cut $20 billion from the $142 billion that President Bush has requested for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad says the cut would affect the budget year that starts october first. It's separate from the ongoing debate over the $100 billion dollars President Bush wants now for the two wars.

While the administration wants nearly $142 billion for fiscal 2008, it assumes the following year will need $50 billion dollars, and no more after that.
