A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
Shield's Mountain, Sevier County (WVLT) - Fire crews have contained a brush fire on Shield's Mountain in Sevier County.
The Forestry Service says the fire ignited on Shield's Mountain on the east side of Pigeon Forge, near Dollywood last night.
It's now burned about 200 acres of land. The good news, no structures have burned.
It crested the top of the ridge Wednesday night, and fire crews had a hard time accessing it because there are no roads going in on the ridge top.
"From here, it's burning slow because it's going downhill, on the other side of the mountain, it's burning pretty fast. The winds are real high up there," says Sevier County Firefighter Bobby Ramsey.
Crews evacuated about 75 people from their homes and rental cabins as a precaution, but they were allowed back in early this morning.
