KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Tennessee will be wearing its white road jerseys Saturday against Alabama after the Tide refused to allow Tennessee to wear its home orange on the road.
"Talking with some people in the offseason about the history here, I thought it was something that would be really neat for our fans and their fans, too," Lane Kiffin said after practice. "We were approved by the SEC and Alabama denied us that."
Per NCAA rules, the home team reserves the right to keep the visitor from wearing something other than its white road uniforms. If Tennessee wore orange anyway, the Vols would be assessed a 15-yard penalty at the beginning of the game.
Did Kiffin consider that option?
"No. We're not good enough to do that," Kiffins said. "The last thing we want to do is kick off 15 yards back."
The first-year coach liked the Vols' intensity during the first practice after a bye week, saying his team showed no rust.
"Very pleased with the energy today and the focus," Kiffin said. "The guys came ready today at 2:30 and had a great practice today.
"Probably the best Tuesday practice I remember being around since we've been here."
