Chattanooga (AP) -- State Senator Jerry Cooper has surrendered on a driving under the influence warrant in a February seventh wreck that left him injured and delayed his federal land fraud trial.

The Morrison Democrat's attorney, Jack Mitchell, says Cooper surrendered Monday in Murfreesboro and was released on a self-recognizance bond, pending a May eleventh court hearing.

Mitchell says the warrant shows that Cooper's blood-alcohol level at 0.18%, the legal limit in Tennessee is 0.08 percent. He was also charged with speeding.

Mitchell said he has not seen investigation records from the single-vehicle accident on Interstate 24 but Cooper will "plead not guilty from the start."

Cooper had attended three legislative receptions in Nashville before the accident.

Cooper's injuries prompted a federal judge in Chattanooga to delay his land fraud trial three months to June 4th.
