TVA Power Line Falls, Causes Outage In Maryville

Maryville, Blount County (AP) -- Electricity was knocked out to part of Downtown Maryville Tuesday when an inactive high-voltage power line fell during installation and brought down a city power line.

A contractor was replacing a 161-kilovolt Tennessee Valley Authority line that serves a large Alcoa aluminum plant when it fell on a Maryville Electric Light & Power company line along US Highway 321 around 10:00 a.m.

TVA spokesman John Moulton says the TVA line was not live and no one was injured. Officials say some cars in a K-Mart parking lot were damaged.

The outage affected traffic signals and police directed traffic as crews worked to restore power.
