Knoxville (WVLT) - We have new information about two separate car accidents that snarled traffic for about an hour on I-40 in east Knoxville this morning.
Darrell DeBusk with the Knoxville police department said both crashes happened in I-40 westbound near the cherry street exit.
The first was at 7:15am this morning.
DeBusk says one vehicle stopped quickly because of a traffic backup, and caused a chain-reaction involving eight other vehicles.
Just minutes later, a similar crash happened just a hundred feet down the road, involving four vehicles.
There were no serious injuries.
He says all but one of the cars involved was able to drive away, the rest had just minor damage.
DeBusk says the dense fog in the area was a factor and no charges will be filed.
All lanes of I-40 Westbound were back open by 8:30am.
