Nashville (AP) -- A Republican lawmaker says a measure passed by the House Friday could make it easier for candidates to skirt state campaign finance laws.
The measure sponsored by Representative Ulysses Jones of Memphis would give lawmakers ten days to correct any omissions on campaign finance reports after being alerted by the registry of election finance.
Representative Stacey Campfield of Knoxville said the measure would allow lawmakers not to worry about accurate reports until they are caught.
In his words, "it would completely undercut our ability to prosecute people who had potentially been taking bribes."
The companion version has yet to be considered in the senate state and local government committee.
