Los Angeles (AP) -- Rachel Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee, was crowned Miss USA Friday night.
Rachel is a graduate of Davidson Academy and Belmont College (in Nashville), where she studied journalism. She is the daughter of former army sergeants.
Smith, who's 21, interned last year for the production company behind "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and for WTVF-TV in Nashville.
As the winner, Rachel gets to live in a fancy New York apartment for a year. She'll spend most of her time traveling as she represents the Miss Universe organization and speaks out on breast and ovarian cancer awareness.
She also gets to represent the United States in the worldwide Miss Universe competition.
Rachel was Miss Tennessee teen in 2001.
Danielle Lacouse of Rhode Island was first runnerup.
