Knoxville (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Department removed a body from the Tennessee River this afternoon near the 1700 block of Alcoa Highway.
At around 10:40 this morning KPD received a call from 2 fisherman claiming to have found a dead body right off the banks of the UT Agriculture Campus.
Members of KPD and the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad search the area, finding the partially clothed body of a black male about 20 yards off the bank.
According to KPD the body may have been in the water for more than a week.
It has been taken to UT Medical where it will undergo an autopsy early next week. The name and cause of death will not be known until then.
A little over two weeks ago rescue crews spent hours searching an area of the river near the Gay Street Bridge where witnesses said they saw a man jump from the bridge to the water.
We will bring you continuing coverage of this story throughout the day on www.VolunteerTV.com and tonight on the NightWATCH.
