Body Identified After 10 Years

(WVLT) - It's a criminal case that's had authorities in East Tennessee baffled for a decade.

A woman's body found in Campbell County, and no leads since 1997...until now. For the first time, authorities reveal her name, and where she's from.

In 2005, then-Campbell County Sheriff Ron McClellan was still carrying a picture with him from Ohio to Georgia, hoping someone would recognize her.

Described as a Native American or Hispanic descent, with tattoos of 'Mom 77' and the name 'Ricky' on her left hand.

The woman was found strangled and stabbed, her body found off Stinking Creek Road, Exit 141 off I-75 in Campbell County.

One year later, a new sheriff in office, and a specific detective assigned to this cold case, Campbell County Sheriff Gary Perkins told WVLT a break came recently.

"Through working with the El Paso Police Department in El Paso, Texas, my detectives were able to identify who the female was," Sheriff Perkins says.

That along with the Jane Doe network, a national center for missing adults, helped identify her as Ada Elena Torres Smith. Thirty-two-years-old at the time of her death. She's from El Paso.

"Put her as to who she could be running with, you know where she was last seen," Sheriff Perkins says.

A case that's stumped authorities for 10 years, now wide open.

"Thank goodness, the family can finally begin to put final closure as to their daughter," Sheriff Perkins continues.

Has the police continued the investigation on her case? Someone must be accountable for this crime! No one has the right to end your life except GOD!
