Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Involved in Accident

Knoxville (WVLT) - A Knox County Sheriff Deputy, involved in an early morning crash with a gas tanker is recovering from his injuries.

It happened at about 6:45 a.m. at the corner of Western Avenue and Ed Shouse Drive.

Knox County Sheriff J.J. Jones tells us 47-year-old Howard Starkey's cruiser was totaled in the collision.

The driver of the tanker was not injured.

Emergency crews cleaned up the debris, and a hazmat crew had to put a substance on the road to absorb some leakage from the truck.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
