Knoxville (WVLT) - A Union County man has been indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury in a 13-year-old murder.
According to Knoxville Police, 39-year-old Ronald E. Green was arrested on March 4th in Union County on a burglary charged.
KPD says when Green was arrested he told Union County jailers that he wanted to talk about a murder he had committed in 1994. That murder was the beating death of a 46-year-old homeless man, Richard Allen Sweat, who was found underneath the Woodland Avenue Viaduct.
Police say Green described how he beat Sweat because he was flirting with Green’s girlfriend and drank too much of the alcohol Green had bought. Knoxville Police Sergeant Tim Snodderly of the Major Crimes Unit was able to confirm Green's story through forensic evidence collected at the time.
Green remains in Union County, he will be transferred to Knox County for arraignment on second degree murder charges.
