Knoxville (WVLT) - The lines were long and the friends were many as hundreds of area folks paid tribute to the late Ed Bailey Thursday night.
We were invited by the family to help honor Ed, who was a three-time major league all-star catcher with the Cincinnati Reds. His mark was also made in politics as Knoxville City Councilman from 1983 through 1995.
Congressman Jimmy Duncan talked about his longtime friend.
"To have friends, you've got to be a friend, and Ed was a friend and touched thousands of lives, and he enjoyed life and people enjoyed being around him. So this is a real tribute to Ed Bailey and the life he led," Duncan said.
Ed Bailey is survived by his wife Betty and four sons. He was 75.
