Knoxville (WVLT) - Get ready! Orange barrels are going up Tuesday on a major construction project that will slow you down in North Knoxville.
Come Tuesday morning, bridge work will shut down one lane in each direction of North Broadway.
Business owners and drivers here are already concerned about how Tuesday's lane closures will affect traffic flow on North Broadway.
It's ordinarily congested here during morning and afternoon rush hours.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, road crews will shut down one lane in each direction to repair the Tazewell Pike Bridge.
TDOT says the overpass work will affect an average of 46,000 vehicles each day that use this stretch.
The bridge received a "fair" rating in a recent inspection, but because of deterioration, TDOT's spending more than a half million dollars in repairs.
Those repairs include looking for damage on the bridge deck's road surface, and replacing bearings under the bridge's steel beams.
Drivers are now planning to take alternate routes to get to work.
"Take me longer to get to a job site, more gas mileage, more time. It'll make it pretty difficult," North Knoxville resident James Spencer says.
TDOT says road work should be finished here on the Tazewell Pike overpass by May 15th.
