A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
Nashville (AP) -- A unit of 20 Tennessee National Guard troops left for Fort Riley, Kansas, where they will prepare to deploy to Afghanistan to train native troops.
The 230th Army Liaison Team comprises volunteers from guard units all over the state. Guard officials say they will be an embedded training team for the Afghan Army.
The unit will be commanded by 29-year Guard veteran Colonel William "Bill" Wenzler.
Monday's deployment brought the number of Tennessee Guardsmen who have been activated since the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks to about 11,200.
Last month, the guard announced that about 300 troops with the 1175th Transportation Company would deploy. The location of their deployment and exact date were not released.
