Knoxville (WVLT) - Several people had to find a place to stay the night with the help of the Red Cross after a fire forced the evacuation of their apartment building.
The fire broke out in an apartment on the corner of Mitchell Street and 9th Avenue in Downtown Knoxville just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
Knoxville fire investigators say it started in a second floor apartment.
And when they arrived, they found flames shooting out the windows and into the hallway.
"The fire was confined to one apartment, it looks like it may have originated in a bedroom, the fire is under investigation at this time," said Brent Seymour with the Knoxville Fire Department.
No one was hurt in the fire.
In addition to the unit where the fire started, six other units have smoke and fire damage.
The Red Cross helped them find a place to stay overnight.
It's not known yet when they'll be allowed back home.
