Gatlinburg, Sevier County (AP) -- A wildfire is burning inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near its northern edge.
A National Park Service Spokesman says about 40 acres is involved near waterville, North Carolina, just east of the Tennessee-North Carolina border.
A visitor first reported the fire Monday afternoon and 20 firefighters are now at the scene, establishing fire lines to contain it.
Big Creek Trail, Chestnut Branch Trail, and Baxter Creek Trail are closed until further notice because of the fire. Big Creek Campground and Horse Camp are also closed.
The section of the Appalachian Trail through the area isn't affected.
