Maryville (WVLT) -- Blount County roads and rivers are a little cleaner tonight thanks to the efforts of more than 400 volunteers.
The environmental minded participants of the "Little River Round Up" took to highways and waterways early this morning. After picking up litter for more than six hours, they celebrated their efforts on the front lawn at Maryville College.
These Round Up volunteers enjoyed a barbecue, pizza, Bluegrass music and kids activities.
"We have a lot of natural resources that we can be very thankful for and proud of," said Bob Booker from the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, "but we have to continue to work hard to protect those, and do things such as this event to promote cleanliness and environmental health and safety for the future."
The annual event also featured a hot air balloon, which is part of AirFest.
AirFest is a separate celebration that emphasizes the need for clean air.
The two events teamed up this year after bad weather canceled AirFest two weeks ago.
