Knoxville (WVLT) - A local man leads Blount County Police on a chase into Knox County, just minutes after officials say he robbed a store on Alcoa Highway.
Police tracked down the vehicle of 36-year-old Shane Garner and chased him into Downtown.
Deputies then say he ran into the Bank of American parking lot right down the street from the City-County Building.
A five minute foot chase began there, but officers were able to arrest him a short time later.
They say they were lead to believe that Garner was trying to get police to shoot him.
But safety is always at the top of their list.
"We always put the safety of civilians in mind when we are involved in a police chase. So that's evaluated and also what's taking into consideration is the seriousness of the crime," says Blount Sheriff James Berrong says.
All in all officials say the chase lasted for about 12 miles.
Several officers did suffer minor injuries.
