Knoxville (WVLT) - An alert witness and quick action by authorities landed two bank robbery suspects in jail.
At left is a surveillance picture taken inside the BB&T Bank in Rocky Hill around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Police say the man with the gun is 25-year-old Michael Scott Bumpas.
He and 23-year-old Kirsten Elin Webb were arrested within 15 minutes of the heist just a few miles away.
Both are charged with armed bank robbery.
Police credit witnesses with getting them an accurate description of the suspects and getaway car and driver.
"They were able to provide a description of the vehicle, and that description was very helpful in getting that information out to all the officers who were responding to this area and to be looking for that type of vehicle which is very key," says Darrell DeBusk, KPD Spokesperson.
That vehicle is a silver Volkswagen, which was spotted just a few moments after the call came in.
Less than 15 minutes after the robbery, KPD captured Bumpas and Webb. Authorities believe they are responsible for the armed robbery.
As a precaution Rocky Hill Elementary was quickly put down on a partial lockdown, which means all exterior doors were locked.
West High did evaluate the situation, but did not go down on lockdown.
No one was injured.
