Roane County (WVLT) - Rescue crews from several jurisdictions worked all day yesterday to rescue a group of stranded canoers in Southern Roane County.
According to Roane County EMA director Tally Rose, the group was finally rescued around 11:30 Saturday night.
The incident started earlier in the afternoon when Roane County Central Dispatch first got the 911 call at about 3:30pm.
When Roane county rescue crews arrived on the scene they confirmed that three men were stranded on some rocks in Whites Creek, right on the Roane County/Rhea County line.
Knox County and Roane County's rescue squads, along with several other agencies attempting the rescue had difficulties reaching the men because of the rough choppy waters on Whites Creek
After several hours of trying the crews were finally able to run rescue lines across the creek to the stranded men who were taken from the rocks by boat.
According to Rose, none of the canoers were injured.
