School Shooter Hires New Attorney

Jacksboro, Campbell County (AP) -- The family of a 15-year-old boy accused of shooting a school administrator and wounding two others has hired a new attorney.

Knoxville Attorney Bruce Poston says he's replacing Jacksboro attorney Mike Hatmaker in the defense of Kenneth Bartley.

Bartley is accused of fatally shooting Campbell County Comprehensive High School Assistant Principal Ken Bruce and wounding Principal Gary Seale and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce on November eighth, 2005.

Just as he was scheduled to go to trial on April tenth, Bartley pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The plea deal included a 45-year sentence with the chance of parole after 25 years.

Bartley is now asking for that plea deal to be thrown out. Poston says his client did not enter into the plea deal knowingly and voluntarily, as the law requires.
