Navy Sailor Returns To East Tennessee

Knoxville (WVLT) -- Memorial Day weekend will be memorable for one East Tennessee Sailor.

Lieutenant Commander Craig Stapleton has come home, to a surprise dinner with his friends and family.

Commander Stapleton has spent much of the last year, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower.

He says life at sea is a lot different.

"Its good to be back in East Tennessee and see all the familiar, sites and sounds and places," Commander Stapleton said. "Of course a lot has changed in eight moths as well. Just trying to figure out how to get around the interstate too since its all changed."

Commander Stapleton will head back to Norfolk, Virginia in a week and a half resume his duty assignment.

When its up in six months he plans to transfer off the carrier.

My husband is also on the Eisenhower. He got to come home for 2 days but had duty today and had to return last night. News on the carrier group is really nice to see for a Navy wife without family or friends in Sevierville. Thank you!
