Knoxville (WVLT) -- Knoxville Police have discovered a dead body under Interstate 40 near to downtown.
Officials tell us a man from a nearby homeless camp found the body of a white male lying in a creek just before 3:30 this afternoon.
The body is now on its way to the UT forensics lab.
Recovery efforts took over an hour.
Police had to call the Knoxville Fire Department in to help.
Investigators say a situation like this, where they have a body in the water, is more difficult to recover, but it won't be any different when they do the autopsy.
Police say this body was found only part way in the water, but was very difficult to get to.
Residents of the homeless camp tell Volunteer TV News they heard people screaming last night.
Investigators don't know if the man died of natural causes, if this is accidental or suspicious.
That information will come from an autopsy to be released tomorrow.
