Air Quality Still Poor in Knoxville

Knoxville (WVLT) - Visibility may be improving for people living in the Knoxville area, one day after a thick haze covered much of the sky, but you may not be breathing any easier.

The Environmental Protection Agency says Friday's air quality index is higher than normal, resting at orange.

That means the air could be unhealthy for sensitive groups, like people with heart or lung disease, or those adults or children who are very active.

Health expert say that if you fall into one of those categories you should reduce your time outside or exertion level.

Officials from the Health Department now say the thick haze you saw on Thursday was caused by the wildfires burning in Georgia and also fires burning the Smokies.
