Tennessee Turns 211

Knoxville (WVLT) -- Tennessee is celebrating a big birthday this weekend, as of yesterday, it is 211 years old.

A number of historic sites have planned celebrations today.

Blount mansion, in partnership with James White's Fort, Fort Loudon State Historic Area, and the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum presented "a trail to statehood."

The girl scouts of Tanasi Council held educational demonstrations for children to learn more about our state's history and those who played a role in it.

"William Williams for example, signer of the Declaration, Nathaniel Gorman, signer of the Constitution, but you never remember these people," said Robert Pelton who writes history books. "You remember James Madison, George Washington, name any others you know."

Colonial music and dancing, along with cooking demonstrations and tours of the Blount mansion also took place today.
