Nashville (AP) -- The State Senate and House approved a $28 billion budget Monday evening.
Tennesseans would get millions of dollars in tax relief, including a half-cent reduction in the sales tax on food.
The budget passed the Senate 28-to-3 and the House 87-to-8.
It would also put property tax relief in place for senior citizens and extend relief to veterans who are disabled due to service-connected injuries.
The House's version of the budget differs slightly from the Senate version.
That means either the Senate will have to agree to the House version or the measure will go to a conference committee before Governor Bredesen can sign it.
