Lake Norris (WVLT) -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee sponsored an eight-mile swim to raise both money and awareness.
71-year old Bill Joly and 56-year old Martin Ellis were the swimmers who volunteered to swim eight miles to the Norris Dam.
"It takes $1000 dollars a year to support and maintain an active match between a big brother and sister," said Myra Yeatman, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, "so they were going to make five matches, but the excitement around the match has grown so, that it's looking like they're going to raise more than their goal."
Supporters of the event took part in a pool party after the arrival of the swimmers. The two swam more than three times the distance of an ironman triathlon.
