CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Police said a man killed while pumping gas wasn't the intended target of a known gang member.
Jonathan Lawrence was fatally shot Saturday night and police arrested Montez Davis. The Chattanooga Times Free Press quoted police saying Davis was a "validated gang member" who started shooting at someone who threw a bottle, smashing a window of Davis' car.
The 42-year-old Lawrence was in the line of fire and was killed.
Police said there was then a gunfight outside Davis's home and a bullet struck a woman in the finger as she was driving by.
Police arrested Davis. A jailer said Monday that Davis has a Jan. 19 court hearing and records do not show that he has hired a lawyer.
