Longtime Blount County Reporter Dies At 64

Maryville, Blount County (AP) -- Anna C. Irwin, an award-winning veteran police and court reporter at the Maryville Daily Times, has died. She was 64.

Irwin died Thursday at Blount Memorial Hospital after a short bout with cancer.

During her 30 years at the paper, Irwin won several awards including the Malcolm Law Award for investigative reporting, the state's most prestigious reporting award.

Friends and co-workers remembered her as a fair and trustworthy reporter, a lover of animals and a NASCAR fan.

State Representative Doug Overbey said Irwin had a deep concern for people and a big caring heart.

Managing Editor Frank "Buzz" Trexler said the community and the newspaper have lost an absolute treasure.
