KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Former coach Johnny Majors calls the new top man an "excellent choice" to lead Vol football.
Coach Majors has been out of town since Derek Dooley was hired, but Volunteer TV caught up with him as he arrived back at McGhee Tyson Airport Saturday afternoon.
"They say that anybody that can work for Nick Saban for two or three years, you got to be pretty tough. You can't be a softie and work for Nick Saban, who I respect very much as a coach. He is an outstanding coach," Majors told WVLT.
Coach Majors knows the Dooley family very well. He says he's left messages with both Derek and his father Vince, letting them know he's excited to help in any way he can.
