(WVLT) - Today is National HIV Testing Day.
The campaign is put on by the National Association of People with AIDS to encourage at-risk people to get the test.
The Centers for Disease Control estimates that as many as 280,000 people in the U.S. have HIV but do not know it.
Across the country today, thousands of HIV counseling and testing sites, health departments and other organizations are hosting special events and extended hours.
The Knox County Health Department is holding free HIV testing today and for the rest of the week, starting at 8:30 in the morning each day.
Check with your local health department for information on testing there.
