Sevierville (WVLT) – The massive blaze that destroyed the New Hope Thrift Store on Highway 66 was arson.
According to the Sevierville Fire Marshal Tommy White the fire was intentionally set. “Evidence has been discovered indicating that some type of flammable or combustible liquid was used to accelerate the fire,” White said.
According to the SFD, a Maryville arson investigation dog, Ember, detected the presence of an accelerant in the debris from the fire.
Evidence collected by Sevierville fire investigators, as well as Maryville Police Department which aided in the investigation, has been sent to the TBI Crime Lab in Nashville for analysis.
The Sevierville Fire Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious person or vehicle near the store around the time of the fire (approximately 7:50 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007), or who may have any information pertaining to this incident, to contact SFD Fire Marshall Tommy White at 865-453-9276.
