Father, Son Face Charges Connected to Shooting

Jamestown, Fentress County (WVLT) - A Fentress County father and son are behind bars, facing charges in connection with a shooting.

Authorities say 53-year-old Benny Conaster was shot in the stomach Saturday evening.

It happened on Banner Springs Road in Jamestown.

Shortly after Conaster was transported to the hospital, officers found 28-year-old Keith Whited. Investigators say he was drunk and when they searched his car, they found bullets matching the gun used in the shooting.

Keith Whited is charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault and several other charges.

Later in the evening, police say Kirby Whited, Keith's father, turned himself into police.

Kirby Whited is charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespassing.

Conaster is in critical condition at UT Medical Center.

I know Keith & Kirby and I am sure that there is more to the story, then just them being drunk and shooting someone. However, Benny I do not know but from what I've heard they all are in the same crowd, it was probably a drunken brawl that went terribly wrong. I know Keith pretty well and he has had a rough up bringing, he has had to do what ever he could to get by since we were young, when he & Kevin first came down from Ind. My heart goes out to him and Kirby, I pray for them everyday. As for Benny I to shall pray for him, in hopes that they all find their way.

I am from fentress county and familiar with all the persons involved and anyone that knows them know that all they do is drank and nothing is being said of the victim if he was drunk to, but the whloe community knows their all the known as the town drunks.I hope that Benny has gotten hisself right with the Lord and maybe others who act as careless drinking and do drugs will learn from this tragedy.I pray for all persons involved. But, I'm sure there is more to the story than what is being told.
