UPDATE: Suspect wanted for late-night Weigels robbery

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Authorities were searching for the man who robbed a West Knoxville convenience store late Wednesday night.

Emergency dispatchers confirmed to WVLT Volunteer TV News that the robbery occurred at the Weigels in the 300 block of N. Cedar Bluff Road just after 11:10 p.m.

Reports from the scene indicate a white man around 20 years old walked into the convenience store, pulled out a handgun and demand cash.

Police said he was wearing what appeared to be dark make-up around his eyes.

Witnesses told them he fled the store in a black mid-sized SUV, possibly a Toyota 4Runner and they last saw him heading north on Cedar Bluff Road. The SUV had a luggage rack and what appeared to be a spare tire on the driver’s side rear of the vehicle.

According to a “be on the lookout for” warning broadcast to Knoxville Police Department officers and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies, the SUV also had silver trim.
