East Knox County (WVLT) -- An elderly couple has lost its home to a midday fire.
The couple was visiting friends across the street when the fire broke out shortly after noon.
A passing neighbor saw smoke coming out of the windows and called 911.
"These kinds of this when people are not at home the fire can double in size under the right conditions every minute," said Chief Jeff Devlin of the Rural Metro Fire Department.
When the fire department arrived, flames were through the roof and windows on the front side of the home.
No one was injured in the fire.
Fire officials say the home was probably a total loss.
No word on how the fire began.
