Roane County (WVLT) - Two brothers accused in the ambush-style murder of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along friend have been granted a preliminary hearing.
Rocky Houston and Leon Houston are accused of the 2006 shooting deaths of Deputy Bill Jones and his passenger, Mike Brown.
Special prosecutor Robert Radford has agreed to the hearing after the former district attorney had taken the case directly to the grand jury for an indictment.
At the preliminary hearing, prosecutors must present establish probably cause for the charges.
Both brothers are claiming self defense in the shooting.
The Houston's trial is set for july of next year.
