Phoenix, AZ (WVLT) - Two television helicopters have collided in mid-air while covering a police chase Friday in Phoenix, killing four people.
The two helicopters, from KNXV-TV Channel 15 and KTVK-TV Channel 3, were following the police chase.
According to CBS Phoenix, KNXV-TV identified the people aboard its chopper as reporter-pilot Craig Smith and photographer Rick Krolak. KTVK said pilot-reporter Scott Bowerbank was aboard its helicopter, along with photographer Jim Cox.
A spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department says no one on the ground was injured or killed.
Video from the scene shows thick black smoke and flames where the helicopters crashed.
The police spokesman said crash debris is scattered across several acres.
CBS Phoenix reports that after the crash, the motorist police were chasing bailed out of his vehicle and barricaded himself inside of a house.
Police said the man could be held accountable for the deaths.
